004A story older than YouTube
The baker three streets over.
There's a baker in a small town, and she's the best in about three streets. Everybody on those three streets knows it. Nobody on the fourth has heard of her.
One winter she starts doing something odd. She drags the kneading table right up to the window and works there every morning where anyone can see, and she talks to the people who stop. About why her loaf keeps for a week when the supermarket one goes hard in two days, about the flour she won't touch and why. Things only she would say, because only she knows them.
People stop. Then they come back to watch. Somewhere in the second month they know her face and how she thinks, and they trust her with their Sunday lunch. Then somebody from the far side of town asks whether she delivers.
She never ran an ad. She'd have baked that bread with nobody watching, and that's exactly why they bought it.
Her walk had seven stops
- 1What you knowYours, always
- 2What only you would sayYour agency
- 3Showing it, again and againYour agency
- 4Being seenYour agency
- 5Being trustedYour agency
- 6Being chosenYour agency
- 7Being paidYour agency
The first stop, knowing the thing, is yours and always will be. The other six are jobs, and they're the jobs your agency does every week while you keep baking.
